Trusty is a brand of dog-food, and dog-food is what you'll end up if you trust the wrong person. Trust improperly placed leads to anger, unhappiness, self-doubt and sexually transmitted disease, and I guess a hundred variations of these things. You know what I mean if you've eaten from that particular bowl - the aftertaste can last for a long time. I see trust as a more tricky creature than love....

Since last month, Project Bodyguard has morphed from being about finishing the Book of Pie to writing up one particular part of Pieism, "In Pie We Trust", which for those who don't know is the last story of the JoJo on Earth, and is of the genre "comedy-religious-adventure". This may take a while, but I hope to have the project finished by February at the latest, then the chances...

Again and again liberals have insisted that one of the best ways to help with America’s unemployment problem is to expand unemployment benefits. In fact, expanded unemployment benefits were part of the “stimulus” spending spree that was supposed to create more jobs . Throughout critics such as myself have pointed out that making it easier to be unemployed at the expense of the people...

Honestly, I don't have a clue whether the reform proposals are going to work. The whole devil in the details kicks up my anxiety level when I try to make sense of it, so I tend to trust to the experts who make a living analyzing these things. Ronald Brownstein finds one that gives the Senate version a glowing review. It's the must read of the day. Good overview of what it will do, that doesn't fall...

What do I think about those leaked CRU emails? Take a shower, a very cold one, excitable skeptics. This summary of the emails (from skeptical site Watts Up With That, so you can trust it) indicates that most of them are about fighting skeptical views in various ways, but very few are even suggestive of doing it by actually manipulating data or how it is presented. As I am sure everyone reading this...

Hey, I sent a Facebook message to those I thought might be interested, but anyone wants to come ride tomorrow is as welcome as free beer to do so. We'll leave from my Dad's house at 1:00, it's about 23-1/2 miles, I'll probably manage about a 12.5-13.0 mph pace, which isn't anything you'd describe as fast. There are some hills to climb, but trust me, if I can get up them, you probably can too. On the...

The musicians strike up a tune and the disillusioned chorus beckons the audience to come forward and be a leader they can trust, singing "orey ekta bhalo neta hobi ai". Based on Nazrul's Leto play Haridasi Methrani, Nabamayukh Natya Sangstha's new play Letor Peto uses a now forgotten tradition of Noto or Leto, which, as singer-researcher Debojit Bandyopadhyay recalls, "was in the early...

I suspect that, were they to stick to the truth, they would be rejected by the public. But once they start down the path of lying, they get swept up in it and do it more and more and more until you cannot trust a word that comes from their mouths. Steve Benen at Political [...]

Want to know why actors go insane? Last night, the audience -- about 2/3 full -- was the quietest we've had since arriving in the city. They were watching Jim as if studying him for an exam. The usual funny lines got laughs, but they were subdued. And, contrasted with the night before, where the house was rocking with laughter as if attending a vaudeville, it was about as disconcerting as it gets....

From Holder's reasonable decision by Jim Comey and Jack Goldsmith: …Holder's critics do not help their case by understating the criminal justice system's capacities, overstating the military system's virtues and bumper-stickering a reasonable decision. There are many things that I do not understand about the far-right wing. Here is one. Why do they see the Republican Party as well as the United...
