Home Cinema Systems: Buying Guide

Home cinema systems have become ubiquitous, offering viewers the immersible feeling of being present at a cinema hall or musical concert. However, with rapidly changing technology, it’s easy to get confused as to what are the best options you should go for. This article enables you to discover the main features of modern home cinema systems.

Basic System

Basic home cinema systems consist of an AV amplifier, source component and five speakers – a centre channel, left and right main speakers and left and right surround speakers for the rear together with a sub-woofer. They offer a truly immersible feeling, where you feel enveloped by the sound. This experience had been restricted to cinema halls, but with the advent of home cinema, it became possible for people to enjoy this level of quality in their own homes.

Playback

Modern home cinema systems usually play back material from a DVD player, although with the introduction of Blu-Ray, it is now possible to enjoy high definition audio and video via Blu-Ray home cinema systems. Blu-Ray images have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. These are much higher than the 720 x 480 pixels available from DVD and they bring the experience much closer to that found in the cinema.

Better Sound

In the pursuit of higher quality, AV amplifiers offering up to 11 channels of power have been developed to offer a more enveloping surround sound. These channels can include additional speakers for the front and read and ‘height channels’ placed above the main speakers for a better vertical spread of sound.

For better sound, more powerful receivers that are better able to reproduce the climaxes of movies should be used. While most receivers have Dolby Digital and DTS, the latest ones include Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio which help to decode the high definition sound of Blu-Ray.

Wireless Cinema

The popularity of home cinema systems has made it a hot market, with manufacturers spending much on research and development to develop new products and technologies. For those who don’t want to have unsightly wires running to their speakers in the living room, wireless home cinema systems have been introduced, allowing cinema to be integrated into the most elegant environments. The recent introduction of 3D systems has taken the Home Cinema experience to a whole new level.

It is now easier than ever to enjoy the best audio visual experience at home. Make sure you buy the latest technology when you select your home cinema system.
