Cables: Buying guide

Cables are the main medium of connection to provide any appliances with the electric power. It is also used for transmitting information across the country in deep sea. The point is that cable is everywhere but, buying one that is suitable for you could be pretty difficult because there are many to choose from (fiber cables, jtag cables or rj45 patch cables). Follow these simple guides and you will be alright.

1) Cable shield

The shield is the most important part in the cable that will determine it safety to you.

Braided shield

This is the most widely used shield. Because of the braid, the wire could withstand more force without breaking even if it was bended or twisted and damaging the current flow. Other benefits of using this type of protection is that it will provide a consistent coverage to you with up to 90% of efficiency. The cable also will carry low impedance to high frequencies, thanks to the RF-shield enhanced with small inductance. Because of the great benefit, the price tag for this type of cable is very high.

Foiled shield

This is the most widely used and the cheapest shield. The wires are wrapped with a Mylar coated aluminum foil. Although it could reach 100% efficiency, the foil can be easily damage if a big force is applied .

Serve shield

If you are looking for a decent cable, this shield works fine, thanks to the copper strands that is being wrapped around it. This twisted wrap had provided great strength to the cable and could withstand any average force. In fact, this cable is pretty hard to bend and will always be straight back after bending.

2) Cable connector

This connector depends on the type of work the cable will do, such as TRS or TS connector and can be easily installed to any cable using a wire cutter and a force.

These are some basic guides that you could follow when buying a cable. If you are looking for a cheaper cable, you could buy the unbalanced cable. However, the amount of noise it produces can be pretty devastating and it does not also last long.
