Breadmakers

Breadmakers: Buying Guide

In this article we will guide you through the common features of the modern bread makers and their models. There are many kinds of bread makers, with an even greater number of features.

Bread makers vary wildly in price and offer a range of features. Before you to compare bread makers you need to think about a few factors :

Available Space
If you don't have a lot of room in your kitchen, then buying a large bread maker will just mean that it gets pushed to the back of a cupboard and may not be used.

Tip: Decide where you would keep your bread maker first and measure the space. This will inform your buying choice.

Do you want to save money or create artisan loaves?
Bread makers can save you money. If you use your bread maker every day then it will soon pay for itself, but remember this heavy use requires a good machine. The best appliances for heavy use will be made of stainless steel and will have heavy duty motors. If you are more interested in creating seeded loaves during weekends, then you can make do with a cheaper bread maker.

Look for a machine with plenty of pre-programmed settings.

Compare Accessories
Bread makers often come with lots of accessories to allow you to bake bread, make pizza dough and even make jam. Breville and Panasonic appliances come with a range of accessories to accommodate these features.

Design
If the bread maker is to be on permanent display in your kitchen, then you need to think carefully about the design. Zojirushi appliances constitute extremely high quality and are finished to a high standard which will fit in with any designer kitchen.

Functionality
Ensure that any bread makers you are considering have a viewing window so that you can check on the progress of the bread (opening the door will mean the bread does not rise properly).

Better quality appliances should also have a timer function so that you can program your machine to wake you up with the smell of freshly baked bread in the morning.

Special Diets
Gluten free loaves require different amounts of ingredients and cooking times. If you have a special diet, ensure that the machine you choose has a program to make baking your special loaf an easy task.

Research bread makers' reviews online.
Remember: The more money you pay, the more reliable your machine will be.
Not only should the machine perform well, but it should also be easy to clean.

Consider all of these factors and you will have a machine that you will use for years to come!
