"Mentalist" Performs Real Trick: It's A TV Hit

BURBANK, Calif. — In a ho-hum TV season in which most new shows have been greeted with a collective shrug and a click of the remote control, CBS' freshman "The Mentalist" has managed to deduce what viewers want. TV Review: Ausiello Blind Item: Hit show star nearly nixed

I'm thinking Simon Baker too. Although I don't agree that Smith was horrible, or that he was horrible in it, there's no denying it didn't work for CBS and it was canceled fast. Network execs seem terribly short sighted so I can see them forgetting just how successful The Guardian was for them and trying to veto Baker's casting in The Mentalist. If it is him I'm glad the studio won that battle!!!!

'The Guardian' becomes 'The Mentalist' for new CBS series

LOS ANGELES - Network lineups are loaded with television shows where bits of hair and fibers, drops of DNA and a host of other small clues are used to track down criminals. Most of the time the tests are run in police labs that look like something from the 1960s animated TV show "The Jetsons."
