And the Chugger lunch winner is . . . The Winking Lizard. Home of the worst jukebox in the United States. I only wish we had been there while PixieHomoFag was in the house, but instead we just had to admire his high score on the Golden Tee machine. ASS was not there either (he had the longest putt). The 80's music was rocking the house and in case you successfully wiped that shit from your memory,...

This weekend, co-vocabularists have eagerly conjoined unlikely composite individuals, with diverting and droll results. For example: "George W. Bush League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."

[8:41] Second song of the night? Eddie Grant's " Electric Avenue ". Those of us on the bloggers' team were asked weeks ago for input on which songs the band should sing tonight. The Awesomes are a well-known 80's music cover band here in Portland. The song I submitted? The Thompson Twins' " Lies ". [8:15 pm] Room is filling up. The band's first song of the night: The Pointer Sister's...

Twenty four years on, I still love Arcadia's So Red The Rose . Only 8 vocal tracks, nearly flawless, and each simultaneously lush and angular. It was produced in 1985 by the late Alex Sadkin , who also produced Duran's Seven And The Ragged Tiger , and albums by Grace Jones and Thompson Twins. Rumor has it the album will be re-released in 2010. I hope it contains the extended versions, which are sublime....

When my sister and her husband got married, a couple of girls that we grew up with sang a song by the Judds. I can’t remember the name of the song, which means it was a song that meant something important to their romance, but had very little to do with my own experience. What songs are considered the most romantic? Who decides what is on the list? I was just looking at a list of Top Love Songs...

Sweet English new wave duos are made of this: spunky girls with great pipes and off-in-the-background boy producers/songwriters. Occasionally there's a twist - like...

I remember watching Tubeway Army on Top Of The Pops in 1979 and telling my friend that we were watching the future of music. He disagreed, being more in awe of Rush, Boston and Lynyrd Skynyrd, though quite how they related to growing up in Croydon I couldn't work out. Meanwhile, up in Sheffield, the Human League and to a lesser extent Cabaret Voltaire, were wondering who this upstart Gary Numan was...

Last week Climb magazine turned its attention to Grinshill and sent Mr Dave Simmonite out to get some shots. On hearing the news, the High Sports team offered up our services to give him the grand tour (and try to get our cheeky faces in the mag). Unfortunately his time was limited, so we opted to just hit [...]

Tons and tons of re-releases on the near-horizon to report. First up, Erasure. I snagged an Amazon.co.uk pre-order for Erasure's Phantom Bride EP this week. I'm looking forward to the re-release of my favorite Erasure album, The Innocents, which happens one day before my birthday this month. Snagged that one too . Happy B'day to me! Next, the Thompson Twins. Yep, Rhino Records re-released the band's...

It's the Gallup UK Top 40 Singles of the Year 1984 - and your chance to download a whopping 7.5% of it! Imagine that! Times must've been hard, pocket money-wise, in this year, as I only owned three of these on 7" (numbers 1, 15 & 37). I'd just discovered the delights of the compilation album in '84, mind, so subsequently own a lot of the songs here as part of various early Now double LPs (oh,...
