Tuesday was a good full day. In the morning I drove over to Amyand Park for a fraternal with Gerard Hemmings , Robin Asgher, Peter Law, Paul Levy and others. We discussed the blind spots of our age. We solved little I guess but we aired some issues usefully. I noticed that those fresh to the ministry in London have similar gripes and concerns to those I had as a younger man (eg the way younger people...
Yesterday was a day of disappointment and joy on the musical front. I had planned to see Focus live in Aberystwyth tomorrow night (with The Strawbs and Wishbone Ash) but the show has been cancelled (lack of ticket sales I would guess or may be someone just wised up to the fact that West Wales was not the place to be between gigs in Newcastle and Folkestone!). Ah well, perhaps I can catch them elsewhere....
Walkout by 600 workers over pay and productivity enters eighth week as public sector tension grows Free pies and peas, sent down in an industrial-size baking tray from the Early Bird cafe, are hot, tasty and free and the banter on a mild autumn Monday is lively. Striking binmen picketing Leeds' main refuse depot practice a dance routine for a benefit gig – echoes of The Full Monty – and...
I had the weekend from hell where the only plus points were that no one died (although Nick came a lot closer than he knew) and Burnley managed to finally score a goal away from home. In fact they scored two and were only beaten 3-2 which was respectable enough. Last night, we went to see the 'Legends of Rock' which was The Strawbs (the acoustic Strawbs) followed by Wishbone Ash (Martin Turner's Wishbone...
I'm still breathless after my summer's non-stop running around but as promised I'm going to dedicate a series of posts to my frolics of the past few months. My first trip was to the UK at the end of July. It was only for six days and included some business, a family reunion and party, a night out in London's West End and a rock concert. Even casual readers of this blog have probably realised that I've...
People have probably been taking cute photos of animals with a wide angle lens since the lens was invented and someone tested one out by taking a photo of the family pet. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that a few of these of...
Photographed from a kayak 300 yards offshore from Sunset Beach, Pacific Palisades, California on Saturday by surf shop owner and Shark Research Committee volunteer Randy Wright. The kayak was ten feet long. So, says Randy, was the white shark.

08:15:37 : Good morning Twitterfriends! Music this AM: The Bis-Quits' self-titled, and Bowie's MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD. 08:30:12 : RIP Robert Kirby: http://bit.ly/PxJnF 08:33:53 : Kirby did arrangements for a lot of great musicians, incl. Nick Drake and the Strawbs. 08:34:26 : I was just listening to the beautiful, melancholy arrangement he did for Dave Cousins' "That's the Way it Ends" the...
Manchester born Andy Sharrocks releases NEW album 'Dirt' which has been said to be an uncompromised Americana album, armed with raw, emotional, gritty and honest vocals and has lyrics transporting the listener into the narrators skin ...
I mentioned previously that I'm going through boxes of old photos. And now that I've got the scanner working, thought I'd share some of what I've come across, old photos I took before the digital era. These first four are from a double bill of B.B. King and Miles Davis at the Beacon Theatre in New York, late 70s or early 80s? This is David Peel in Washington Square Park, 1971 or 1972. I showed this...
Back in the 1970’s – when I was at Grammar School – one of our British Prime Ministers tiring of a strike by the coal miners called a General Election too ask the question “Who runs the country'”. As one commentator has said the reason he was voted out was the electorate to the view that if you don’t know then we’d better let someone else have a go. Back in...

a new opinion on www.dooyoo.co.uk about Cairnie Fruit Farm (Cupar, Fife) written by worst_trip Cairnie Fruit Farm's been a little local gem of a pick-your-own place in Fife for decades, but in recent years they've been branching out as a childrens' play-park as well and word has spread so that now people are coming from far and wide to ...
