Is the independent festival on its way out? Seeing the Big Chill fall into the hands of a corporate giant feels like a symbolic moment, but it doesn't reflect the health of the UK festival scene. The Big Chill failed not because independent festivals can't survive, but because Chillfest moved its festival away from the event's original ethos – an event for people who used to go clubbing –...
I’ve spent so long drinking red wine and watching VH1’s Final Countdown: One Hit Wonders that it seems that I have left no time at all for a blog post. Bugger. The top three (as chosen by VH1) were: 3. Tasmin Archer’s 1992 hit Sleeping Satellite – she blames you for the moonlit sky. And the dream [...]
Today’s links of interest: Gawker Destroyed Nikki Finke. So Why Doesn’t It Matter? We wondered if anyone else caught this. Turns out someone was paying attention. Edwyn Collins stopped from sharing his music onlineThis is sad and scary. Especially the part about Warner Brothers claiming to own something they don’t and not fixing it right away. Saw Edwyn Collins at the Bloomsbury Ballroom last night and a very fine evening it was. It was great to see him back on stage. ROCK royalty descended on London's Grosvenor House Hotel for the Q Awards and despite the ceremony finishing at a rather un-rock'n'roll 4pm, the party carried on late into the night in the capital's pubs and clubs.
British rock group Muse have been named the best act in the world after collecting the prestigious gong at the annual Q Awards last night in London. The Devon based band, whose recent album ‘Resistance’ went to the top of the charts, beat off strong competition from Oasis, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon to scoop [...]
