The other night whilst channel-hopping, I stumbled upon a rather lengthy televised concert by Def Leppard on the CBC. On the CBC. At ten o'clock in the evening. Pre-empting The National, for crying out loud. How Un-Canadian, I thought. Turns...
By Greg Wyshynski The Detroit Red Wings may be feeling a twinge of embarrassment after their 3-2 home-opening loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night, in which the Stanley Cup champions passed the puck like a remedial-level pee-wee team. That is, until Def Leppard's Joe Elliott redefined the concept of embarrassment during one of their NHL Face-Off Rocks segments at the Fox Theater in Detroit....
There’s a big “epic fail” fuss over the way that Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott handled the Stanley Cup at the launch of the new hockey season last night. Oh noes! I guess the world is going to end now, isn’t it? When the cup was brought out, Joe picked it up and placed [...]
Joe Elliott of Def Leppard was recently handed the Detroit Red Wings’ Stanley Cup at the NHL Face-Off Rocks segments at the Fox Theater in Detroit and when he put it down he put it down the upside-down according to Puck Daddy. Poo Joe, good thing he is not Canadian or he would be banned [...]
No denying Hockeytown is the capitol of NHL country and on opening night of the 2008-09 season, the Stanley Cup celebration reached epic proportions as the Detroit Red Wings raised their championship banner at the Joe while at the Fox Theatre Def Leppard delivered a special arena-rock performance. Those in attendance at the Fox were treated to a broadcast of the sold-out Red Wings game against the...
What with the Phillies game last night, I was as unaware of hockey season starting as, well, everybody else. But I guess nobody’s as hockey-ignorant as Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, whose appearance during last nights Red Wings-Leafs post-game extravaganza gives one new appreciation for the NHL’s usual music suspects (like Barenaked Ladies or the Hip).
Filed under: Talk Sports The band kicked off the season-opening party for the NHL last night, but the guys from Def Leppard clearly don't know much about the Stanley Cup -- like how it should look right-side-up.... Permalink
Def Leppard Stanley Cup, Wrong Side Up, Video. How funny is this. I am sure NHL fans were biting their tongues and gnashing their teeth. Hat tip for this vid goes to Puck Daddy. I think they should make everyone, that holds Lord Stanley’s Cup, fill out a questionnaire.
Finally, Don Cherry admitted he likes European players. "I love Def Leppard! I love Def Leppard!" he said of the U.K. band that rocked the Fox Theatre before and after Thursday night's game for the NHL's special opening night show.

The defending champs and Def Leppard. What more could a hockey fan ask for? Edmonton’s not playing tonight, but it’s just as well - the Oilers are expected stink this year. We’ve never denied that our hockey knowledge is infinitesimally small (like your johnson! O!), and really, the last time we truly paid attention to [...]
So Def Leppard is going to rock out and play the NHL’s official season opener (sorry Rangers) in Detroit tonight. Def Leppard. I liked these guys a lot when I lived in the 80s. But wait, the NHL has a little 90s juice in there, too, with Alanis Morissette (a Canadian!) playing via a live [...]
The piano-pop craftsman makes a fine return to form with "Way to Normal," his third full-length album since breaking up Ben Folds Five at the turn of the decade. Expect a typically loose and lively set from the 42-year-old veteran. Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins, a reliable chart-topper in her homeland, gets the opening slot as she works for a U.S. breakthrough. 6:30 p.m., the Fillmore...
