While I deal with the blue / green issue on my blog (my pal Gregor, the Sad Old Goth , has graciously offered to help me; I shall repay him for his act of chesed with a video of my favorite Bauhaus song , featuring a rather effeminate and pirouetting Peter Murphy), I think this post on Lost City is a wonderful read. (Quick warning: If you have an aversion to cockroaches, as I do, you might consider...
Hello, everybody! I’ll be honest with you — this chart kind of stinks. I mean, it’s not “wretched,” but I wouldn’t say it’s “good by any stretch of the imagination,” either. But you know what? I open my Billboard book, close my eyes, point to a chart, and deal with what’s [...]
Hands up, who knew Peter Murphy was still alive? Legendary goth gods Bauhaus return with their first record in twenty five years, complete with Murphy and original members (who split off to form Love & Rockets) Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins, and it isn't bad. "Go Away White" resurrects the jagged glam guitar, brooding bass and gloomy synths that made the band the most influential David Bowie...
Get a free Slurpee at 7-Eleven today in honor of 07.11.08. (thanks Mike) The TomKat clan send gifts to Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s newborn girl Sunday Rose. Emily Blunt and Michael Bublé are dunzo. It turns out that the David Lee Roth that was saved from dying by a couple of Canadian police officers was an [...]
photos by Lori Baily Murphy's current Retrospective tour culls from both his solo work and Bauhaus's songs, particularly those on its spring-released "Go Away White," a surprisingly fine recording after the quartet's 15-year recording hiatus. But, with Bauhaus, arguably the...
Peter Murphy has been making music longer than most of us can remember. As the lead singer of Bauhaus , he established himself as the "Godfather of Goth". After the band's break in the early '80s, Murphy continued to create music with his deep brooding lyrics and vocals. Off and on, Bauhaus would recreate itself with Peter at the helm. Apparently the ride is over, as their latest release Go Away White...
On the heels of his stunning debut album 'Nothing to Say' (released March 18th on Wildflower Records) Ali Eskandarian prepares for a series of shows throughout North America ...
It only just occurred to me that the reason this was always my favorite Bauhaus tune was that it is preminiscent of Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets and it lacks an overbearing Peter Murphy-ness. I'm ok with Peter, I've just always favored the direction the rest of the guys went when the band split up. I saw Love and Rockets live at Tipitina's in New Orleans, back in 1987. A relatively unknown Jane's...
Tickets are now on "Citi Cardmember Presale" for 2 NYC Peter Murphy shows at Blender Theater (June 26 & 27). Tickets are also on sale or going on sale for a bunch of other U.S. dates. Bauhaus have a...
I don't know if I can fully express how influential and beloved bauhaus were in my youth amongst a certain group of friends that I came of age with. Nevermind that to the casual observer they seemed a bit silly and like they wanted to be Bowie a bit too much. Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose so more power to them. Who hasn't wanted to be Bowie at some point? Here's a glimpse of them in their heyday: Bauhaus...
