Less than a month ago I reviewed Amanda Lear's "Brief Encounters" album and clearly riled some fans (if the comments were any indication) by suggesting that it wasn't all that good. In retrospect, I think I was actually quite restrained - particularly when you compare it to the amazing "Brand New Love Affair". Before I get into my review, I should recap the situation for the uninitiated....
Topless GMILF celebrities... A nother reason to go to the beach ? I had no idea she was 62 year-old when I first saw these topless pictures of French singer/ actress Amanda Lear . Yes, the miracles of modern plastic surgery. The pictures are from 2006 when Amanda Lear was spotted in Saint Tropez with her then new and much younger boyfriend. And to tell you the truth, I am not sure about her true age....
Now this is a bit confusing, so please bear with me. Way back in January I wrote a post announcing Amanda Lear's comeback album and even provided a tentative tracklist. The good news is that "Brief Encounters" has finally been released. Albeit only in Italy. Now, here's where things get a little complicated. Due to reasons that I'm not allowed to discuss, the album will be released in France...
I knew that appointing Riccardo Tisci to Givenchy was a smart move by LVMH. He showed promise from the start, and I really enjoyed his Fall 2009 prêt-à-porter and Haute Couture collections. Well, he just keeps getting better and better. Tisci’s Spring 2010 clothes were bold, inventive, beautiful. His range is beyond. As in the past, [...]
The market editor of Vogue raids her wardrobe for that item she has never dared wear before . . . I like Roxy Music but I've never seen myself reflected in Amanda Lear's dominatrix leathers on the For Your Pleasure cover. I walk a whippet not a panther and I'm predominantly made of denim. Or am I? A quick wardrobe tally and I find three biker jackets, a teeny miniskirt, black leather walking shorts...
If you've taken a look at the latest The Monthly you'll have seen The Ramones on there, and my comment that it'd be pretty damned ace to have seen that band in their prime, back in the 70s. So cut to me catching up on some potential bloggery and one of the things I'd made a note to do was to look at this website called My Beatclub . It's a collection of old TV performances and includes artists as diverse...
I've always loved Mandy Smith. She was the bad girl of Stock Aitken Waterman. While Kylie wore pearls and innocently chirped "I Wouldn't Change A Thing", 17 year old Mandy posed for pictures in her knickers and belted out saucy anthems like "Victim Of Pleasure". Despite her incredible lack of UK chart success, I honestly believe Mandy's debut album is a Hit Factory classic. "I...
French Disco-Diva Amanda Lear spins and struts and...well that's about it, in this video for Gold. Did she make this at the mall? Or is she on a television show with really unimpressed audience members? Kind of uncreative for the woman who was once "spiritually married" to Salvador Dali. Via FEY FRIENDS . Welcome back, guys!
The Pop Panel has undergone a bit of makeover this week. Instead of the usual selection of hyped hits and future flops, I thought it would be fun to focus exclusively on the local music scene for a change. Australian pop music is on fire at the moment with the likes of Jessica Mauboy, The Veronicas, Sneaky Sound System, Cut Copy, The Presets and Empire Of The Sun taking off internationally. Then there's...
Bulgarian DJ, Clipper last posted us a mix back in October of last year (Listen here) and so impressed with the results we are more than happy to give you a second ‘Cosmic’ installment. No need for the spiel today as you can find out all you need about Clipper in the above link so let’s just [...]
Where to begin with Ms. Lear? How about her modeling career in ’60s France? How about her years-long romance with surrealist Salvador Dali? How about her relationships with Bryan Ferry and David Bowie? How about the (unconfirmed) fact that she began life as Mister Lear? While several of her contemporaries remember Amanda back when she was Alain, [...]
I've seen this video clip a while ago, but it's never stopped me fascinating for the reaction of the French cinema and music stars. As I understand it, artists like Jean Rochefort, Charles Aznavour and Catherine Deneuve must've been watching Amanda's clip while taking part in a TV programme. And as all of us would agree, their reaction couldn't be more peculiar. I was introduced to Amanda Lear's songs...
Filed under: Twisted Tales She's like the Forrest Gump of international pop. In her 50 years in the Jet Set, Amanda Lear has befriended the Rolling Stones , dated David Bowie , had a "spiritual marriage" with the surrealist painter Salvador Dali and posed for Playboy. She's like a Forrest Gump -- that is, if anyone ever suspected that Mr. Gump had undergone a sex-change operation. Allow...
