Some months ago a complaint against a restaurant critic (made, not surprisingly, by a restaurateur) was upheld in court, and the newspaper in which it had appeared, The Irish News, was fined £25,000. Which is an awful lot of money. You can feed four people at Nobu for that.

The Irish News is the latest newspaper to make its online edition free to read. They relaunched their web site a week or two ago with a nice new look and no mention of paying to read. I'm not sure if they intend to keep it free to read or if this a temporary situation. We can only hope it's permanent. In recent months we've had the NY Times abandoning their subscription model and at some point
