Happy birthday

To easily one of my all-time favourite screen actors, Warren Oates, who would have been an enigmatic 81 today had he lived longer than 53+ years. I had no idea that it was today but I did order this biography (and I'm very excited about it!) from my local bookstore this past Thursday and I was just sorts priming myself up by reading a bit about it and him here now when I came across the fact so I thought...

For All Mankind: Criterion Collection (2009 Reissue)

Recommended As a bold meditation on discovery, courage and perseverance, Al Reinert's For All Mankind (1989) truly stands in a class by itself. This Oscar-nominated documentary chronicles the Apollo space missions of the 1960s and 1970s from a decidedly different perspective: the human one. Replayed reels of grainy stock footage have trained us to assume that the historic 1969 moon landing was distant,...

Invasion Iowa

Recommended The Series:   No matter what you might think of William Shatner and hisacting ability, you have to admit that the man has had an amazingcareer.   While most dramatic actors get oneTV seriesand then fade away, he's stared in several series ( Star Trek , T. J. Hooker,Rescue 911 , Boston Legal , and theAustralian production A Twist in the Tale )as well as countless mini-series,...

Transformers 2 Blu-ray/DVD Release on October 24th?

Blu-ray.com has a listing for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen that seems to indicate an October 24th release date for the Blu-ray and DVD disc release of the movie. This has not been officially confirmed by Paramount but the first movie was released on October 16th, 2007 so there is precedent for the quick turnaround. Thanks to Mauricio for the link.

Death Note: Re-Light, Vol. 1 - Visions of a God

Skip It TheSeries:   Did you know that there have been more Jimi Hendrix albumsreleased since the musician's death than were released when he wasalive?   That's because when his short lifewas overhe still had legions of fans, so practically every demo tape, recordedconcert, and jam session that happened to get preserved was released, notbecause theywere recently discovered masterpieces,...

Watchmen movie (2009) Critic Review

Alan Moore was right. There isn't a movie in his landmark graphic novel Watchmen -- at least not a really good one. What we get instead is something acceptable but pedestrian, an adaptation that is more a prisoner of its story than the master of it. The difficulty is not with a lack of fidelity to this dark tale's narrative about an apparent plot to eliminate costumed superheroes from the alternative...

DVD Dish: Mary, Garry & Lola

Who can turn the world on with her smile? Mary Richards, of course, and I'm happy to report that the 5th season of The Mary Tyler Moore Show is finally being released on DVD on October 6. Fortunately, Twentieth Century Fox came to their senses and decided to release the last three seasons of the show separately instead of forcing Mary's loyal fans to purchase the first four seasons again in a Complete...

Voddler

So apparently Bredbandsbolaget's Voddler service is about to show up for real and not just as a publicity stunt. You can register at their website for a chance to become a tester. Maybe the day has come for a internet-wide (well, within Sweden) film streaming service. While I doubt the first generation is going to be the most intuitive one but they have several years' worth of music streaming services...
