Pixar - officially nice guys

The best marketing is that which you don't pay for or try to get. Pixar know this. At the tail end of last year, the trailer for the new Wall-E movie came out. A girl called Courtney saw it and burst into tears. Since this happened every time she watched it, she decided to film herself crying and posted it on her blog . It's quite funny and touching and she was rightly embarrassed by it. She started...

Your Dress Would Look Better On Me: Hello, Luxo: My Pixar Adventure

There has to be some sort of way to figure out why the first trailer to Wall-E with that music and the voice made so many geeks love the movie and character with only about 5 seconds of screen time. Why do lonely robots make me happy? [From Your Dress Would Look [...]

Radical conservatives terrief of Pixar's WALL-E

Think Progress Right-Wing Apoplectic Over Pixar’s WALL-E: ‘Malthusian Fear Mongering,’ ‘Fascistic Elements’ Shannen Coffin: From the first moment of the film, my kids were bombarded with leftist propaganda about the evils of mankind. It’s a shame, too, because the robot had promise. The story was just awful, however. Greg Pollowitz: It was like a 90-minute lecture on the dangers of over consumption,...

The human side of Pixar's robot

This story is hilariously, beautifully, far-fetchedly awesome and heart warming. See also the MeFi thread. Pixar proves it’s one of those great companies that is run by unabashedly human people , and it’s no wonder why their work is so personal and touching. When you engage yourself with your customers and your audience on a level that reminds them you are the same, the experience is far greater than...

Pixar and the Goldman Aphorism

Peter Suderman , riffing on the issue of whether critics matter: If movie reviewers are such good predictors of financial success, why hasn’t some studio caught on and put a bunch of them on the payroll? It’s not as if the studios aren’t actively pursuing every conceivable formula and strategy to predict what will and won’t work at the box office. As Malcolm Gladwell reported in The New Yorker a few...

Care to Super-Size that? (Some Thoughts on Pixar's Wall*E)

Let me start off by saying there are spoilers ahead , so if you don't want to know about them, stop now. (Not that I'm going to give a blow-by-blow, but I do want to talk a bit about what the film says to me). With that out of the way, the Olga 'n Yuri Household had a great time seeing Wall*E this weekend. While it is clearly one of Pixar's best, it's not their best film ever. I think the Toy Story...
