Superheroes with toy franchise tie-ins get a lot of heat... unless critics had a real lively sense of humor they trashed both TRANSFORMERS (as well as WOLVERINE, TERMINATOR SALVATION, etc.) but GI JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA does everything right. AND it gets a lot less things wrong. One can only hope the Michael Bays, Brett Ratners and McGs pay attention when watching JOE (though its director, Stephen...

Well…here we go. Rumors about the next Transformers movie have emerged, and anything short of Michael Bay actually putting a proton cannon in his own mouth and tabbing the firing stud will be something of a disappointment. But you’ve got to admit, the guy has made thinking big into an art form. Long term Trans fans [...]

Film critics are almost as bad as film studios when it comes to festivals. So desperate are we to herald hidden gold that we will endure some serious crap because it sounds promising. (Speaking of which, go see The Horseman...

Richard Kelly's The Box, which opens today, was shooting in the Boston area two years ago; that in itself should tell you it has problems. The failing-grade RT reviews (44% hoi-polloi, 25% creme de la creme) are another. It's Friday morning and the film is all but dead in the water -- let's face it. WB marketers knew it was a ruptured duck ages ago; that's one reason why they took so long to open it....

In 2005 an Ethiopian volcano erupted, tearing a thirty-five mile rift in the country in a matter of days. That might be slightly slower than the average Michael Bay event but it's still incredibly fast in geological terms - especially...

Why do I do this to myself? I've said before that I like Michael Bay. The Rock is a classic action film, both Bad Boys deserve to be preserved in the Library of Congress and I cried during Armageddon. Still the man has fucked up in huge ways. Pearl Harbor is a colossal rip-off of Titanic and God only knows how much coke Bay blew before telling Scarlett Johansen to put more clothes on for The Island....

Michael Bay is a complete nightmare, a script and storyline that is basically an excuse to have an explosion every five minutes. That was a summary of every Michael Bay film I have ever seen! Let’s take the Island as an example, it brings up some interesting issues and questions about cloning, playing god and the cost of life. Of course this is a Michael Bay movie so who cares about that we have...
