The 2009 Tour de France started on Saturday. The opening leg of the race was held in Monaco this year, and was a time trial. Most time trials are held on a flat course, but this one was a little different. It was a 10 mile course and the first five miles was going uphill. The second half of the race was downhill and contained several very tight turns. The time trial was won by Fabian Cancellara (pictured)...

Seven-time champion Lance Armstrong made his return to the Tour de France on Saturday, but failed to make a winning start at the opening stage time trial held over 15.5km.After an absence of four years from the race he won between 1999 and 2005, the 37-year-old American clocked a time of 20min 12.36sec for the race against the clock which many believe will be a good indicator of who can win the race.It...

One thing is for sure, Astana has come to play. Armstrong, Kloden, Leipheimer, and Contador all rode very well, and all are in the top ten. This year has the makings of a great tour. Bob Roll said on Versus that this will be the best in 3 years and the posers will be shown for what they are. Strong words from Roll, but how could we expect less from him? The day belonged to "Fabulous" Cancellara,...

Another Grand Depart. And the ten trillion comments speak well of the enthusiasm around here. Not much to say about the race itself, being a short time trial and all. It was a bit technical, which affected a few guys pretty severely, but the rain held off, and in the end the leaderboard looks a lot like what you'd expect of a time trial: Fabian Cancellara, Saxo Bank Alberto Contador, Astana, at 0.18...
