The team at QTrax continue to delight with what can only be a prankster's approach to business. The world has been watching for a couple of years as they send out releases announcing something or other, only for a clarification to follow in a few days that reveals that, actually, the deals with the major labels they said they had weren't in place, or it's taking a little longer to get the music on...

Today is the birthday of Ike Turner who was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He was a Grammy Award winning musician, bandleader, talent scout, and record producer. He is probably best known for his R&B work as part of the Ike and Tina Turner duo. His career lasted half a century and he played blues, soul, rock and funk. His first recording, "Rocket 88" by "Jackie Brenston and his...

Have you seen Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome? Well, if you have you know that all this dress by Myne needs is a blond mullet wig and you've got Tina Turner's character! Kidding aside, I like the powerful feeling of this dress. I think booties are absolutely the right shoes to pair with it because stilettos or sandals don't balance it out, and actually would make it look cheap.

Liv Tyler was a lovely Cleopatra and her son, Milo, 4, was an adorable bat. Her ex and son’s father, Royston Langdon, went as a mummy. (Fame Pictures) Mariah and Nick Carey were angels. Sure beats Ike and Tina Turner while remaining uncreative. (Diane Cohen/Fame Pictures) Christina Aguilera and her son Max went trick or treating in Brentwood in [...]

Death has been in the news rather a lot this week. Three particular stories caught the Mouse's eye. First up was Fr Ed Tomlinson who moaned about being dragged to the crematorium where the deceased were 'popped in the oven with no hope of redemption'. Whilst he wasn't entirely happy with the coverage that his comments had received by the media, he was making a sensible point about people's attitude...

Keep baked good fresher longer with Bagel Dome We don’t need another bagel, we don’t need another bread dish. All we want is life beyond Bageldome … okay, it’s a really bad paraphrase of a cool movie theme song, and while I can’t sing like Tina Turner, I can enjoy Bagels outside of a window [...]

The Brooklyn Museum’s "Who Shot Rock & Roll, a Photographic History, 1955 to the Present," showcases rock stars, of course, but it also means to highlight the photographers — like Albert Watson, Richard Kern, and William “PoPsie” Randolph — who captured them. Showing the artists up close and sweating, the portraits of Little Richard and Tina Turner are almost...

After weeks of breathless speculation as to who would be riding George Miller's bleak highways of Mad Max: Fury Road , there's been a conformation. Variety reports that Charlize Theron has boarded the film, but that it'll be Tom Hardy ( Bronson ) who takes over the coveted lead. The script is being kept under tight wraps, so we still don't know if Mad Max: Fury Road will be a reboot or a sequel. Speculation...

This year I’ve decided to retire my Wonder Woman costume and try something new for Halloween . Originally I thought I’d dress up as Tina Turner , or maybe take a shot at Freddie Mercury , but when I brought these ideas up to my friends, they instantly replied, “When you said you’d be a musician, I thought you’d be someone from an Indie Band!” . Well, with a few...

Lambert was not exactly my favorite contestant last season. I found his preening and huffing arrogant and self-obsessed and a bit forced, not gutsy and different like I was supposed to. And this new album cover, a David Bowie/Tina Turner in Mad Max / SilverHawks mash-up, is just more of the same. I'm not saying he should have gone for something simple and easy, but the kid was on American Idol for...

"If you're going to do blockbusters, you have to find the human in them or else you're just making a video game. I've always said if I'm going to make these things, I'm going to do the thing I can do in a $4 million Australian film — a dramatic piece — and bring that into the action film. If you do that, the audience feels it and then they've got a way in. They see themselves up there...

She has been an entertainer for 50 years, sold 60 million copies of her records worldwide and has had 17 Top Ten hits. How is it that she’s still got the “za-za-zu”? In Tina Turners’ Biography, the singer gives people a piece of advice to improve
