I've mentioned The Film Noir Foundation before. The estimable Eddie Muller founded it and continues to present noir in all its aspects around the world--and present it in the most intelligent and compelling ways possible. By sending a contribution to the Foundation you'll receive The Noir City Sentinel when it appears. This magazine is the finest ongoing history of noir I've ever seen. Here's how to...

[Photos: Highlands; Laren Spirer] In my mid-20's, I used to think all Scotch was the same. It was something that old men drank, and something that my male friends were "learning to drink." Every time I tasted it, all...

I love old movies. Rita Hayworth always played the femme fatale with great pizzazz. The background poster and separate image (originally black and white) of Rita Hayworth were Googled. The film reel is by Kubivet and the aged film strip frame is by Irene Alexeeva.

1) The very first profile of me—ever in my life—is out this month in Chronogram Magazine, this beautiful monthly arts and culture magazine in the Hudson Valley, where I’m from. It’s so exciting to be featured, especially because that’s where I grew up. When I was a teenager living there, I had all these lofty dreams [...]

The Halloween post is totally overdue! Sorry about that... my modem shut down on me for a few days, I have no idea why. I hate technology sometimes. I love the 40's and 50's decades and have so many vintage dresses I decided to go as a 1940's Lady. I took most of my inspiration from Rita Hayworth for the hairstyle and went a little bit Dita Von Teese for the makeup. Sorry for the crappy picture quality...

Beginning with some brief reviews... 1. Pal Joey (starring Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth) Great old-time sing-along, though thoroughly unrealistic - that dame gives in to Joey's charm far too easy, but I guess that's why the lady is a tramp. 2. Marley and Me (starring Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston) Cute dog story which is really about people, all mushy and sad at the end. 3. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas...

It's hard to escape the incessant doom and gloom of recession when it's plastered all over the newspapers and beaming out from every television set. The good news is that there are a few products which can truly be deemed 'recession proof', and one that is a legendary morale booster... lipstick! The idea of using makeup to 'put on a brave face' has seen us through two World Wars and several recessions....

1) Would you like to win a copy of DANI NOIR, the tween novel I wrote about liars, cheaters, and Rita Hayworth? Check out the interview of me in Joëlle Anthony’s “Wild Card Wednesday” series, where I talk about such things as Go Ask Alice, Paris (France, not Hilton), and the coolest thing to happen to [...]

While Sony's Rita Hayworth set got a new release date (23 February) for its delay, no date has been listed for the now-delayed New Hollywood box set , which most notably contains the US DVD premiere of Jack Nicholson's Drive, He Said . Sony's Film Noir Classics, Volume 1 released today, but it looks as though Volume 2 has also been postponed indefinitely. Hen's Tooth Video, however, announced the first...
