I loved Dietrich's husky voice more than anything else about her. She lived from 27 December 1901 to 6 May 1992. It's amazing that she lived to 91 considering that she always seemed to be smoking - which of course accounted for her husky voice.
When I saw this article about Michael Jackson showing up in an ultrasound . Yeah, I know how racially insensitive of me. Then I thought I read they were from Sugarland, but it was Southerland. Personally, I think it looks more like Marlene Dietrich ...
This parody of The Lord of the Rings by O. Sharp is very clever, not least because it came out some 14 years before Tolkien’s book was published. It stars Humphrey Bogart as Frodo Baggins, Sydney Greenstreet as Gandalf, and Marlene Dietrich as Galadriel. Posted in Humour, JRR Tolkein
Werner Herzog's approach to "the truth" has always been fascinating, fearless, at times ferocious and to continue in this alliterative vain, faithful. Faithful to life -- to its wonderful or horrifying craziness, to its lyrical splendor, and to its appalling ugliness that in turn, can often reveal a deep, multi-faceted beauty. Life is unclean. Anna May Wong acted along side some of Hollywood's heavy-hitters during the 20s and 30s (think Douglas Fairbanks, Laurence Olivier, Marlene Dietrich), received great acclaim for her onscreen performances, she even has a star on the Walk of Fame and yet she remains fairly unknown today. It seems that, despite the fantastic reviews and the accolade, Hollywood was reluctant to give her any honest to goodness...
Aleksandr Sokurov’s still, breathless film about Emperor Hirohito is a portrait in grey smoke and vague, delicate sounds. From inside the Emperor’s colorless laboratory of a palace, the distant cries of poverty and displacement and the low rumble of mechanized destruction cannot be heard above the tick and whirr of recording devices, preserving the movements and observations of the great...
it is so fun to read about marlene dietrich. unlike the inscrutable garbo, dietrich seems to have no problem revealing how she ticks. here are a couple of real gems: "i work. and as long as people want me, and i have them eating out of my hands, i shall continue." "no man falls in love with me i don't want to fall in love with me" she is just great. she had a whim! collecting dressing-room...
