Last week, at the annual business meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, there was the oddest presentation at their Tuesday morning session. Maggie Smith and Karen Terry from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York were giving an update on a long-awaited "causes and context" study of sexual abuse by priests. The USCCB contributed $1 million to fund it and an additional...

Who was the most random person at the Standard Theater Awards , held today at The Royal Opera House in London? Legendary Magneto actor Ian McKellen? The go-to gal for old chick roles (easily interchangeable for Maggie Smith) Vanessa Redgrave? Professor Xavier with a mustache Patrick Stewart? Gaylord Kevin Spacey? Kid Rock look-alike MacKenzie Cook. I’m not sure what’s going on [...]
I grew up in Brooklyn, but moved to Los Angeles to make it in show business. I was an actor, writer and acting teacher. I worked in the Comedy Store and Improv for years, and wrote the play The Biz with George Clooney acting in it. I was a staff writer for the HBO series Kilroy, produced by Clooney and I wrote for the show Charles In Charge. I have worked with Rosemarie Clooney, George Clooney, Michael...

Dame Shirley Bassey has grown tired of waiting to replace Jade Ewan to become the 7th Sugababe. The Welsh self-confessed bitch was found sobbing into the lap of Dame Maggie Smith, in the toilets at Stringfellows nightclub, who urged the Diamonds Are Forever starlett to let go of her dreams and enjoy what is left of her life like normal grandmothers do. Gay musical stars such as the Pet Shop Boys, Rufus...
. JA from MNPP here, taking us on a journey into the Mythical land of Perseus and his bros. (Or is it Brahs? I can never keep my frat-boy-speak up to date.) Anyway I assume by now we all have witnessed the thigh-thundering glory that is the trailer for the remake of Clash of the Titans ? If not, ye shall behold! . . I took some big pretty screen-grabs over at MNPP if you're interested (with special...
I’m not sure what can be said about Clash of the Titans except that it’s a remake and that it looks to be chock full of sandals, special effects and action. I don’t know too much about the original except that it came out in 1981, had an amazing cast ( Laurence Olivier , Maggie Smith , Burgess Meredith ) and used stop motion animation to create what looks to be a beautiful film....
Clash of the Titans--the 1981 Geek mythology fantasy starring Harry Hamlin, Laurence Olivier and Maggie Smith, with memorable (if anachronistic) f/x from stop-motion animation master Ray Harryhausen–boasts a pretty hefty fan following, especially among Gen Xers for whom the movie is a geek pop touchstone. Still, I think only Harryhausen zealots/purists believe that delightfully clunky block
(Some of the old promotional posters for Clash Of The Titans 1981. Note, people, the presence of a much younger Dame Maggie Smith as Thetis , way before she became known to many as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films ). Hey, it seems that Hollywood's at it again. They did the Perseus myth once before in Clash Of The Titans 1981 ; now, they're remaking it for 2010 . Among other tales,...
On her monthly shopping trip to Milan, Emily Delahunty, an English novelist now living in Umbria, takes her seat on the train unaware that her life is about to change forever. CAST: Maggie Smith DIR: Richard Loncraine (2003)
During her long career, Maggie Smith has been many things to her fans. Electrifying as a charismatic schoolmistress in her best actress Oscar-winning role in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie." Hilarious as the vain actress with a bisexual (at best) husband in "California Suite." Heartbreaking as a middle-aged Irish spinster in "The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne."
