Longtime readers may recall my special, TWILIGHT ZONEISH connection to legendary movie star Lana Turner (detailed here: http://booksteveslibrary.blogspot.com/search?q=lana+turner+changed+my+life+and+never+even+knew ). Well, for years I tried to reach the now late actress to tell her that story but it was never to be. Last week, however, after another several years of trying, I DID finally succeed in...

His birthday isn't until Nov. 30 but daughter Stephanie wanted to surprise him. So, on Saturday, she produced a 90th birthday spectacular toast to her father Efrem Zimbalist,Jr. at Lakeside Country Club -- across the street(s) from his alma mater Warner Bros. "I feel like I was in heaven for a day and back," he emotionally said to me. Stephanie...

At left, my favorite Lana Turner expression: stricken, freaked-out, NOOOOOOoooooOOOOO!!!!! --with scene-chewing aplenty. Even though it's Annie's death scene, Lana takes over the screen with her melodramatic blondness. (She always looked utterly fabulous.) While Mr Daisy read a high-minded historical biography of Andrew Jackson , I sat there watching, yes, IMITATION OF LIFE , probably for the 100th...

This new Lana Turner book caught my eye recently when it came up in my Amazon recommendations. LANA is a 400-page coffee table book by Turner's daughter, Cheryl Crane, and Cindy De La Hoz. The five-star Amazon reviews made it sound quite interesting. Turner isn't one of my top favorite actresses, but I've enjoyed many of her films, especially those she made up through the late '40s, and I particularly...

Susan Sarandon, 62, is featured in the book. Susan Sarandon, Angie Harmon, Kate Hudson, Elisha Cuthbert, Molly Sims, and Denise Richards are among the modern-day celebs who have stripped off in some sultry photos, taken in the spirit of famed 1940s pinup girls like Rita Hayworth and Lana Turner, for Hollywood Pinups, a new book from [...]

Roger Moore is seldom chosen in any poll as the most cherished James Bond. While he certainly made a mark as the British agent, more people prefer Connery, Bronson, or the current Daniel Craig. But Moore doesn’t regret trading in his TV career to become Bond. Roger Moore has written his memoirs [...]

Because time isn’t always kind: economic reviews in a world full of waste! You know Roger Dean even if you don’t know Roger Dean. Those trippy Yes and Asia album covers? That’s him. Prog rock’s favorite sleeve artist is celebrated in DRAGON’S DREAM, a handsome coffee-table book that begins with work he did for sci-fi computer [...]

From The Telegraph:They say that Samuel Taylor Coleridge was the last person to have read everything. By the time he died there were too many books, they suggest, for any single brain to engage with. "They", as usual, are wrong....

I posted that short video extract a couple days ago (The Greatest Movie Line ever..."Ghost Breakers") and sort of felt bad that I didn't even recognize Bob freakin' Hope. Weak in the movie-fu know-who. There may be something to say for that, but Bob Hope? Sheesh. But this famous YouTube "Women in Film" will test even the best and most knowledgeable movie fan. I know a few; my wife knows many.
