THE PITCHER still has that dimpled, Kirk Douglas chin. He still has that military-style brushcut. He still holds his glove up to his face, only his eyes visible to the batter, whom the pitcher doesn't really see anyway because those dark, mysterious and piercing eyes are staring at the catcher's outstretched mitt as if it holds the secret to some great mystery. And maybe it does.
