Everybody knows the classic winter holiday movies, from older ones like It’s a Wonderful Life to newer ones like A Christmas Story, to ones that get remade over and over again like A Christmas Carol. It was May 12th of'07 when Katharine Hepburn was born. Her parents had named her Katharina Houghton Hepburn but she changed the final "a" to and "e" as her stage name. She had a very good upbringing seeing as though her mother was a suffragist and her father was a doctor. Today she is considered to be perhaps one of the best actresses of all time.

Zadie Smith's passion for writing and film shines through in this sparkling collection of criticism, says an admiring Peter Conrad For Zadie Smith, criticism is a bodily pleasure, not an abstracted mental operation. Reading, like eating, caters to her ravenous but discriminating appetite: she finds the essence of Kafka in a sliver of words from his diary, carved, she says, as thin as Parma ham and...

I met a wee girl tonight. A very wee girl. 8lb and 10 oz to be precise. And not yet 24 hours old although she will be by the time I finish writing this. Her name is Rebecca Catherine Hepburn and I thought a piece of advice from her famous namesake would not go amiss. Her mummy and daddy are Julie and Jamie Hepburn. Jamie is a Central Scotland MSP and Julie has a good chance of being the Cumbernauld...
