There are nights in the theatre for which you gladly queue round the block months in advance, secure in the knowledge that the magnitude of the screen star you hope to see outweighs any reservations about the play, the director or the ticket price. It was such considerations paved our way to Ingrid Bergman in Waters of the Moon at the Haymarket in the 70s, to Elizabeth Taylor in The Little Foxes at...

The rumours that both Les Miserables and Miss Saigon will be on the silver screen before too long delight me considerably. Of course, we shouldn’t get our hopes up yet, as Les Mis was lined up for a cinema transfer back in 1992 and nothing was ever heard about it, but these plans seem a little [...]

The high res photos from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix continue to trickle out, as there are more online today. We love the Weasleys, especially this photo of the delightful Julie Walters and Mark Williams as Molly and Arthur Weasley . Also notable is this of rehearsals for the aftermath of the lightening struck tower, as the various cast (and notice the double for Hagrid) bundle up ...

In the last few weeks alone, the description "national treasure" has been applied to the pop star Cheryl Cole (the Sunday Times), rapper Dizzee Rascal (the Independent), TV presenter Fern Britton (the Daily Mirror) and John Major (the Observer). Isn't this taking things too far? Cole is famous for...

Yes, the references may have dated but the whole thing now comes across as a period piece and a lot of the gags still work. Unfortunately there are a lot of awkward silences...
