This playful, tongue-in-cheek study combining extracts and trailers from Doris Day's many feature films, stage and TV appearances and archive material, reflects her turbulent and successful life.
It's the most wonderful time of the year once again, so in the spirit of the season, I will be featuring more of my favorite holiday moments here on Deep Dish during the next month (you can check out the ones from last year below). First up is Gretchen Wieners, Regina George, Cady Heron and Karen Smith (Lacey Chabert, Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried) singing "Jingle Bell Rock"...
The dressy trend in updos is the Female Rockabilly Hairstyle. This hairstyle is inspired by the fashion style of the 1950’s called Rockabilly. Music artists in the 1950’s made this style... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
During his Hollywood golden years, Alfred Hitchcock released The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day. This was actually his second time around the block with the film. Before Hitchcock came to America, he directed another version of the movie with Peter Lorre, and you can catch this 1934 [...]
BeefJack writes: "It’s not even December yet, but even Sony’s pre-emptively getting into the festive spirit having announced a Paul McCartney and ‘Festive – Fun 2′ Track Pack will be hitting the SingStar Store soon. Included are classic Christmas tunes including Doris Day, Slade, Elton John and Cliff Richard. Frankly, it wouldn’t be Christmas if [...]

Nellie McKay has three loves - animals, the Poconos, and Doris Day. She's penned her share of songs with pithy social criticism on subjects such as gay marriage and feminism. But the tartly lyrical vocalist and pianist's dedication to animal rights and pet advocacy, her favorite cause, shows through in songs like "Columbia Is Bleeding" and "The Dog Song."
And now for my favorite post of the day when I can stop reading and writing about politics and other dismal stuff and focus on beauty and glamor. To me Angie Dickinson is one of the most under-rated beauties. Maybe it's just my personal tastes but I think she was one of the most stunningly sexy women in Hollywood ever. Angie Dickinson (born September 30, 1931) : She appeared in more than 50 films and...
Going Rogue, Sarah Palin's book, is the biggest thing in years to hit America's bookstores across the country. Except in the liberal and tolerant land of San Francisco.
Some of you may have noticed that any articles that have slipped off the front page now have moderated comments. I was forced to do this by huge waves of spam hitting my blog -- it's getting worse all the time actually, dozens of spam comments to be weeded out every day. But I'm delighted that people still comment on older articles. Two recent comments I wanted to draw attention to: anonymous (sign...
In further tales of limited connectivity, I am in St Pancras. The wafflechild has just left me with many imprecations not to lose any more vital things or get lost and only just stopping short of writing my name and his phone number on my forehead in magic marker. He's not wrong. I have been horribly, pathetically chaotic in the last couple of days. Useless. I suppose the enforced competence of moving...
Returning to writing happens in its own time; I've known that for more than the three years of blogging time I've had, but it still surprises me. I can't really say what was holding me up - the 8... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
I'm really new to the wonderful on-screen pairing of Doris Day and Rock Hudson, but am glad I've finally learnt about their movies. Pillow Talk was their first movie together, and it's absolutely a joy to watch. Besides the witty dialogue, I just adore Doris Day's looks in this movie. I wish people still dressed like this today - how lovely to wear gloves, hats, fur muffs(!) and to dress up for dinner....
This song won me over in about 3 seconds with its springy guitar, and though some might find Olof Arnalds' oohing a little too bold, a little too Doris Day, I find it all the more idyllic. This is the musical equivalent of Snow White's friendly forest animals. I don't know what she's saying, but it sounds warm and earnest, like she has my best interests in mind. Ólöf Arnalds Englar og dárar...
