In the past, I have been very rude about DC’s obsession with creating story platforms at the expense of actual, you know, stories. I was particularly snotty about the Batman crossover Battle For The Cowl being a shameless money grab…. everything I’ve come to despise about modern ‘event’ comics, a story that existed solely to [...]
Well done to the FTC for putting some serious resources into attacking business opportunity scams. It doesn't hedge, it doesn't say that some are better than others — instead it says in a simple and forthright manner that if someone is advertising a “business opportunity”, even if it's a celebrity like Adam West, you should run fast in the other direction : W ant to “ be your...
When the history of film criticism in the 21st Century is written, don’t expect to read much about Pauline Kael or Andrew Sarris. While the were hugely influential to a generation, to those born after 1970, Kael had stopped writing by the time they reached their teens and the auteur theory was already accepted. Instead, you can look to a group from Minnesota as being a major influence, Joel Hodgson,...
Episodes 12-14 The Funhouse There is certainly no shortage of brilliant scientists in the G.I. Joe universe. This episode starts with Zartan kidnapping another one, Dr. Hibbentrope. He's the third scientist Cobra has kidnapped--at least, I imagine, very recently. Seems like they've always got one or two being forced to work on something. Flint, Lady Jaye, Alpine, Bazooka, Gung Ho and Breaker try to...
Here is a great Batman reunion from the 1980’s on the American chatshow “The Will Shriner Show”. The reunion includes interviews from; Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin), Yvonne Craig (Batgirl), Julie Newmar (Catwoman) and Stanley Ralph Ross (Script Writer).
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows , Video , Reality-Free Since Ed McMahon passed away earlier this week, I figured I'd post this bizarre lost TV special he hosted in 1979. It was called Legends of the Superheroes , and it ran on NBC in 1978. It was basically a live-action version of The SuperFriends cartoon (with a laugh-track but without Superman and Wonder Woman). But this second episode was a roast....
This is the first of an irregular series of reviews that will follow a number of titles through their runs – or at least, as far as the publishers allow. This review will cover two manga that are practically polar opposites: Pluto, Vol. 3 – a series that reworks a classic Astro Boy/Mighty Atom tale [...]
20 years ago on this very day, Tim Burton's Batman was released into theaters. Think back, stretch your creaking bones, and let's go on a trip down memory lane. I was all of seven years old when Batman came out (I know, a lady never reveals her age, but when have I ever acted like a lady'), which means I have only vague recollections of the pre-release period. I remember we were buzzing about it at...
Clearly the classic opening to the campy BATMAN TV series of my favorite year, 1966, was created prior to the series airing. This is obvious because it appears on the first episode and then on every subsequent episode without variation until the Batgirl bit is added in season three. The opening presents a montage of villains, most of whom are generic but some of whom were clearly taken from the comics...
In case you are living under a rock somewhere, we hope Republicans out there all see the Alinsky-Al Sharpton style methods work: over the weekend, two of David Letterman’s sponsors apparently dropped him: Embassy Suites and Hellmann’s Mayo (still waiting on confirmation on that one, but it’s been appearing in emails to people from Hellmann’s [...]
By David Lambert - We reported to you, over two months ago now, that Amazon had begun taking pre-orders for 30 Rock - Season 3 on DVD...but that a street date wasn't available, because Universal Studios... (more)
Check out Batman: New Times , a student-made film based on Mini-Mates ( Sorry, Jeff !) featuring the voice talents of Mark Hamill, Adam West and Courtney Thorne-Smith. And is that Dick Van Dyke as Commissioner Gordon? [via Poe TV ]
Holy shit Batman! 1) When I first watched the 1960’s Batman TV show it was with the intense seriousness only a 6 year old can muster. Whilst it’s generally regarded as a benchmark in high camp pop-art, for me it was high drama. Of course later, once the (giant) penny dropped, I could appreciate the show in [...]
http://www.coverbrowser.com/ is a nifty timewasting site I discovered via Bud Plant's blog ( http://budplant.blogspot.com/ ). Lots of comics and book covers but also whole sections for foreign DVD's and the ever-popular odd album covers. Check under "Misc." for the latter but only if you have a lot of spare time. Unlike most sites like this that offer a smattering of goofy-looking televangelist...
