The Nielsen group reported Friday that John McCain’s speech at the Republican National Convention was viewed by more people than Barack Obama’s during the Democratic one. “Senator McCain amassed an audience of 38.9 million viewers for his speech on two fewer channels than were carrying Senator Obama’s speech August 28 to 38.38 million viewers,” Nielsen [...]

I’m one those folks who get to decide what others watch on TV. I’m a Nielsen Family! They’ve some Web thing going on now, so I went to check out my account. Attempting to update my profile, I got this message "Please log into your account on a PC-based machine. Our software is not compatible with Linux or Mac operating systems." That’s right: A Web application that fails because of the client OS. Apparently,...

Barack Obama's campaign significantly cut back on Web display and search advertising in August, while rival John McCain's stepped on the gas, according to the latest stats from Nielsen. More interesting: they're pursuing vastly different ad strategies. While the Obama campaign bought nearly four times as many online display ads as McCain in August, McCain is outbuying Obama 22 to 1 in search ads....

THE 2007-08 TV season was not the best of times for broadcasters. No wonder they're looking for a do-over. Nielsen ratings, already on a downward trend that's been blamed on everything from a sharp rise in the use of DVRs to increased competition from cable, took a hit from a bitter, extended writers strike.

There have been many rumors that this fake boobed old hag has been seen more than a couple times on dates with this one-gloved pajama pants wearing musician. This has got to be one of the oddest celebrity pairings to date definitely beating out Flavor Flav and Brigitte Nielsen. Can you guess the unlikely duo? Click [...]

NO ROMAN style stage and an indoor arena rather than a stadium. It's still the right formula for a convention: The GOP presidential candidate attracted roughly the same number of viewers to his convention acceptance speech Thursday as Obama did before the Democrats last week, according to Nielsen Media Research. It marked the end of an astonishing run where more than 40 million people watched political...

Last week it was reported that Barack Obama’s acceptance speech was the most-watched convention speech ever, with 38.4 million viewers. Then, six days later, the Republican vice presidential nominee came within an inch of his record total. And then Nielsen reported that John McCain’s speech edged out Obama’s, making him the most-watched presidential nominee ever. But [...]

Community outreach.Much was made yesterday over the fact that, according to Nielsen, John McCain's acceptance speech had clobbered Barack Obama's history-making (for a week only!) acceptance speech by 500,000 viewers. I was shocked as hell that McCain could garner even...

While not truly significant, I just wanted to squash this emerging storyline that is repeated out there: John McCain's acceptance speech was seen by more than Barack Obama's. The fact is, they were even. From Breitbart: Nielsen said that 38.9 million people watched McCain accept the GOP nomination Thursday on either ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel or MSNBC. PBS, which has a more imprecise estimate...

In a wild and crazy report, Nielsen Media Research says two out of three people across the planet tuned in last month to watch the Olympics on TV. That'd be 4.7 billion viewers, one-fifth more than the 3.9 billion who watched the '04 games in Athens. China led all nations with 1.3 billion viewers.

So the narrative going into this election cycle was that Democrats were super-motivated and Republicans were anything but. I guess I assumed that this would mean the Democratic National Convention would get a lot more eyeballs watching it than the Republican National Convention would--especially given that Barack Obama has charisma and star power and John McCain really doesn't. How wrong I was : As...
