Pantry Talk: The Holiday Pantry - Part 1

As I realized my thoughts about living a pantry lifestyle during the Holidays were buzzing around in my head and not landing, I figured out it was because there were too many for one post (or my brain is too small, which is entirely a possibility). Here is... Part One. When my husband was still able to work and bringing home an income, he almost always was paid every two weeks. So... instead of my...

A Snapshot into my Pantry

On September 25th, I took note of all my canned goods out of curiosity to see what I had at that moment. It isn't a complete list of what I canned this season -- in the weeks after that, I...

Amager Blue - Conceived in China?

Or conceivably it could be the other way around? While travelling last month I came across again a book published in 1978 called Blue and White, The Cotton Embroideries of Rural China by Muriel Baker and Margaret Lunt . I think first time round, in my uneducated state, I had dismissed the book for what I considered very simplistic and uninspiring charted extracts, never bothering, as a consequence...

Transform The Cookery For The Better

The kitchen is a piece of art and a gathering place in most everyone's home. The kitchen is where family comes together in the morning and says goodbye at night after a midnight snack. The pantry cabinet is where everyone gathers when the hunger starts to set in, or when someone is bored and looking for a good snack. The kitchen pantry storage is where everyone stores their favorite snacks and where...

Congratulations, Freddie!

I am in the midst of putting together the Recommendations post and reading a few books to review... not to mention continuing the Pantry Talk posts... and housework. However, I must send you to a friar style to share in the joy as my "adopted Catholic friar son to pray for" celebrated an important event in his life. I'd love to have attended but you know me and travel (even if I were to have...

Two Smart

This morning as I was getting ready for the day, I heard the all-too-familiar sound of Henry pushing a stool across the floor. He was just outside my bedroom, inching his way to my door and heading in my direction as I stood at the bathroom sink. The sound struck fear in my heart as if an old street peddler was slowly, sloooowly creeping toward me as I stood alone in the dark. I quickend my pace because...

I knew that I was going to need lots of energy to keep me going so here is what I ate for the day to get me rarin' to go! Breakfast Breakfast on this fine morning was a gigantic glass of green juice with a little something special. No, it was NOT spirulina , thank you very...

Aw, nuts.

I love nuts , haw! In my mind, the kids were just mules for me to get my hands on peanut butter cups on Halloween. But for some reason my plan backfired, and much to the happiness of the Kid , they got one. ONE measly peanut butter cup?! I can't live on that!! I had to take matters into my own hands. I dug through my pantry and luckily found a bar of chocolate . Then waaaaaay in the back I opened a...

Summer BBQ Time! - Cookbooks Part 2: Ross Dobson's Chinatown: sweet sour spicy salty

Home from hospital – it’s a good feeling!
