If there's one thing this world is lacking, it's good neighborhood infographics. Redfin's new neighborhood real estate data page for Capitol Hill has some useful visualizations of the local market. If you're considering making a move, the charts provide an overview of what is happening out there -- kind of like those partly cloudy weather graphics on TV. This inventory chart is pretty simple -- shows...

I think I know what's causing the slump in the housing market: typos, eggcorns, and spelling mistakes in real-estate listings. Redfin, a Bay Area real-estate blog, pointed me to some real howlers: walking closet (for walk-in) fully remolded single-family home (for remodeled) stainless steal appliances (presumably purchased legitimately) sinking living...

Glenn’s got rundown on the latest version of Redfin. The things we really debated about in this release were: The icons we added to the details page and use on the new favorites page. Do they look good? The last chart on the neighborhood pages. Do you understand it? The entry point for neighborhood pages on the map page. [...]

This is some very cool stuff. We love to see a continuous push on technology in this real estate spectrum. Glenn Kelman and Team continue to push the envelope. Also rumor has it Redfin obtained profitability last month…any confirmation on that? Press Release via Redfin Corp. Online real estate broker Redfin today released a major new version [...]

I went to a presentation by Redfin today. They are transforming the real estate business. Goodbye, 6% commissions. If prices come down enough for me to buy a house, I'll buy it through Redfin, which rebates 2% to the buyer. 2% in my neighborhood is a shitload of money. Redfin is a private company, funded in part by Draper Fisher Jurvetson , and will IPO if the real estate market rebounds or they achieve...

This Aussie wine has a very cool label. It’s called The Murray Fishing Club, and says it’s “great with barbecued redfin.¨ There’s not much else, though. It’s an ‘07 at 13 percent, and it’s white. But it doesn’t say what grape it is, or how it was made. Fortunately, Mr Google, helpful as ever, [...]

We had a user contact us because they were able to find some listings on Windermere but not on Redfin. We dug into it and a recent change in the NWMLS rules is the culprit. Turns out you can only show subject-to-inspection listings if they are your own. Since Windermere is the biggest listing broker [...]

We’ve had a few people hit a weird bug with Virtual Earth and FF3: I can’t move around in the embedded Virtual Earth map with Firefox 3 and the new Redfin release. When I click and try to drag the map, the map momentarily blacks out and then reappears, but zoomed in and offset in a [...]

Last week we released a new version of Redfin.com. What happened behind the scenes? FF3 Without a question we dropped the ball on Firefox 3 support. Since we use a variety of components to build Redfin, some of which don’t support certain browsers, we warn if you’re not using a supported browser. FF3 was one of those browsers. [...]

Redfin users often wonder why Windermere has more photos than Redfin does for many listings. The reason is a combination of things - the NWMLS has a 15 photo limit, Windermere is the largest brokerage in Seattle, Windermere allows their listing agents to upload extra photos. With the NWMLS leading most MLSes with additional data [...]

We debate every pixel at Redfin. On Friday the debate was about background color of graphs. White background: Or gray background: Mose, one of our developers with a flair for statistics found this quote justifying gray: “The grey background gives the plot a similar colour (in a typographical sense) to the remainder of the text, ensuring that the graphics [...]
