Re: Where to find P/E data

Have you looked at Barra's S&P 500 fundamental data time series? The data goes back quite a ways, however, it stopped being updated in 2005. I've also gone to the iShares for index fund P/E data. I'm also interested in this data and would like to learn of other sources.

Corporate Bonds: When Safe Asset Classes Become Risky

Brett Steenbarger submits: ( click chart to enlarge ) We hear about "credit crisis" and "risk aversion", but I thought I would make those issues much more concrete for readers. This is not some volatile stock or sector, and it's not a bank. This is a chart of LQD, the iShares Investment Grade Corporate Bond Fund. Note that it's not a junk bond ETF; rather, its holdings are considered investment grade....

Stocks in REITs Climb High Despite Broader Real Estate Worries

Don Dion submits: The iShares Cohen & Steers Realty ETF (ICF) offers a fairly straightforward and cautious approach to the notoriously volatile real estate sector, largely avoiding mortgage real estate investment trusts REITs and rarely straying far from the largest REITs of the commercial real estate world. That approach has yielded appealing results so far in 2008—a year in which the broader real...

iShares Switzerland Can Ease Portfolio Turmoil

Thomas Smicklas submits: As reported, during the unraveling of the worst of last week's financial crisis, investors were looking for safe havens. Certainly, precious metals will fit that category, but I believe that for many investors a healthy dose of iShares' Switzerland (EWL) may worth a look to cure high anxiety. First, the currency if Switzerland has traditionally been viewed as solid and less...

Checking in on the silver ETF inventory

While waiting to find out the sordid details of the new " permanent plan " to shore up the ailing mortgage market (seriously, that's what they're calling it), it's worth noting that the iShares Silver Trust (AMEX: SLV ) added a little to its inventory today. There has been a net addition of 78.1 tonnes of "the poor man's gold" to the fund over the last three days and, like the shortages, delays, or...

iShares Consumer Services Bucks Downward Trends, for Now

Don Dion submits: With AIG (AIG), Lehman Brothers (LEH) and Merrill Lynch (MER) dominating the financial headlines to start the week, the economic outlook seemed to grow bleaker yet again, and those who have been skeptical about consumer spending—for months now, even years—seemed to gather more ammunition. How this Black Sunday works itself out remains to be seen, but so far in this economic slowdown,...
