The best queue I ever stood in was for Lenin's Tomb. It snaked around one and a half sides of the Kremlin but it kept moving . The Russians did not approve of dawdling. 40 minutes in and out to see the old wax work and then get on with our lives. Yesterday's queue was 45 minutes stationary in a medieval cloister, but that was expected. We were told to be an hour early for the doors opening to Salisbury...

Today is my Pappy's birthday. I wished him happy birthday this morning and wondered if he's up there or out there somewhere looking after on me. He would have been 95 today but he died 1996. He was a great Pappy - my Dad's dad. He could turn his hand to most things but in his day he was a carpenter. He made lots of different things and that's probably where my Dad has inherited his jack of all trades...

I was away for Thanksgiving, visiting family in Louisville and enjoying this lovely Edible Arrangement : Unbeknownst to me, while my roommate and I were away, the kitties were up to these shenanigans: We do not know how many Snickerdoodles were lost in the bellies of the felines. Fortunately for my roommate, she has plenty of extra dough in the fridge to make more. Unfortunately, I love me some Snickerdoodles...

Yesterday Jessica Alba, Cash and Honor went to a friends home to celebrate Thanksgiving. She arrived wearing the most adorable floral dress and carrying a Tupperware container with ingredients in it. It looked like a beautiful, warm sunny day in California. What a perfect day for Thanksgiving. She looks so relaxed and comfortable in that lovely dress. There’s even a better photo after the jump!...

In honor of Black Friday, here are some holiday gifts under $30 that were recommended at a RedPlum “My Frugalicious Holiday” event that I attended at SLS in Beverly Hills last week. They had over 30 editor's favorites on display, but these were my favorites: MYPACIFIER $5 “mute button” pacifier WHY WE LIKE IT: The “mute button” pacifier is too funny, and great for...

La Familia Scribe added a wee touch of Martha Stewart to our holiday table yesterday. The hollowed-out gourds at each place setting hold votive candles. Saw this cute touch on TV~ Kathy Lee & Hoda, I believe. Acquired the lillies & sunflowers at the local grocery store, on sale. The china & silverware are mine. The antique spinning wheel in the corner, though, isn't a Scribe concoction...

That’s a question the Village Voice recently asked Brooklyn resident and author Jonathan Ames in an interview. He responded: Almost nothing. Some cheese in a plastic Tupperware thing and some olives. An old coffee I must have planned to reheat. A jar of jam and a jar of relish given to me as presents. Two old bottles of Perrier. One old kombucha. One old bottle of cod-liver oil. We love it! And...

#1 The CPN lets us in at the front door and leads us through. Annie is sitting in the front room, surrounded by bags of clothes, Tupperware containers filled with pill packets, a scattering of magazines. She is carved upright, pale and alert, glasses so thick they dilute the central portion of her face. ‘Annie is having problems with her right side,’ says the CPN. ‘I’ve had...

Mr Elton neither knows nor cares about any of this. He is just a creature of fashion who has made a lot of money by telling modish jokes to people like him, who think their opinions are terrifically advanced, nonconformist and clever. In fact these opinions are as nonconformist as jeans and trainers. They have got them off the television, from their teachers and their rock-star heroes. They have never...
