It may sound a little creepy, but Intel thinks that virtual doctor visits are the future of healthcare for the elderly. Berlin Symphony - 1927 frozen in time

This is "A Berlin Symphony", a film made in 1927. A symphony, but a silent movie ? Partly they didn't have the technology then but this film actually works better with silence, for many reasons. First, you concentrate on the images and the way they flow together to create a "symphony" in the original sense of the word, a weaving together of images. And what images - trains moving...

want an iPhone

I like my current Sony Ericsson K800i, and it does everything I need it to - y'know, making phone calls, sending texts and the like - but recently people have started to mock it. I'm hurt. I only bought the bloody thing 18 months ago, although admittedly the model's about 3 years old now which makes it positively geriatric in mobile phone terms. I worry though. All those apps, all that mobile internetedness....

New era for Tarner Park

This weekend years of work by the well-established Friends of Tarner Park group came to fruition when a new, graffiti free, ball court was officially opened. One of the first controversies I cam across after I was elected to the council in 2007 was the vexed question of whether to enforce a ban on graffiti in Tarner Park. The park had become internationally-renowned for its graffiti: the park looked...

Always take the good camera

Above, the best shot I could get of the critter who tried to gatecrash the Mojave National Preserve’s 15th Birthday Party today at the Kelso Depot. The middle of the tracks was as close as he was willing to get to the couple hundred people at the Depot, despite the existence of hot dogs and cake. The Raven was rapt. I’m a little surprised he didn’t come home with us. The party also...

Raining Sparrows

Saturday was another perfect example of "the worst weather bringing the best birds". While most "normal" people probably spent the day indoors, myself and other birders toiled in periodic rain showers with the hope of finding some interesting birds. For some of us, the effort paid off with big dividends. In Prospect Park, despite gray, wet weather, several of us found what can only...
