Not supporting Iain Dale’s top blogs competition

Tory blogger Iain Dale wants to do his annual ' which are the top political blogs ' competition again and is inviting submissions to through this post . He's asked us to link to it naturally, but this year I won't be submitting a list of my top blogs for two reasons.

Vote for your Top 10 political blogs

It's that time of the year again. Iain Dale is compiling his 2008/9 Guide to Political Blogging and is once again asking for your help in putting together his annual popularity poll. This blog was placed 10th in the 2006 poll and 18th last year. I would love to do as well again, but seriously don't expect to, as I have had considerably less time to spend on blogging over the past 12 months or so and...

Top 100 Political Blogs

Tory self-publicist and feted King of Blogging Iain Dale has decreed the race for the top 100 UK political blogs for 2008-9 open. Last year Iain got a good deal of stick for his method of compiling the top 100 centre left blogs. Dave Complex and John Angliss pointed out that Iain had circulated an email [...]

You see? I told you...

When I hyped Iain Dale's blog list yesterday , I also mentioned the Left's attitude to the whole exercise. Of course, last year all the Lefty blogs resolutely refused to endorse Iain's voting drive, and then complained when they weren't anywhere near the top. "It's the Top 500 as voted for by Iain's readers," they complained. Oh look! That didn't take long , did it? However, I won't be participating...

Poll Pimping: Dale's Annual Exercise in Blog-Gradation

Old hand Sunny Hundal is suggesting a boycott with some useful arguments but new boy Tom Harris is gleefully pimping the poll and stands to pick up the acceptable-face-of-Labour vote himself from Iain's crew - despite some tardiness on the reciprocal linking and hat-tipping front. You will make your own minds up. Being Iain Dale's annual blog-grading exercise this thing is inevitably biased to his...

Dale’s blog list - no boycott here

Iain Dale is compiling a new edition of his guide to UK political blogging, revising the work that was done last year, and part of that is an appeal for readers of his blog to rank their top 10 political blogs. Liberal Conspiracy and Bob Piper and stating they are opting out of the process [...]

Department of Appalling Self-Promotion

Iain Dale wants you to vote for your favourite political blogs (written by Britons or furriners resident in the United Kingdom). Obviously this means you can vote for this one. All you need to do is go here or (better) email Iain here and leave your list of ten blogs in the comments section. What could be simpler than that? And if you felt like mentioning this one somewhere in the upper echelons of...

New Direction: Labour Home Secures Backing

Will this help the left-of-centre get a blog into the big five ? Under the likes of Dale and GuF and Conservative Home, well-supported by CCHQ, and the non-aligned Political Betting the political blogging world is fairly even stevens. But at the top Tory Boy Bloggers do have the numbers - even if, Tim and Unity, they tend to exaggerate. With Dorries for example getting up to 50 "hits" for a single...

Iain Dale, Liberal Conspiracy, a dodgy list by Wikio and, oh, my top 10 political blogs!

There’s been an enormous hoo ha over at Liberal Conspiracy whether to join in Iain Dale’s, or rather Total Politics’ list of the Top 100 Political Blogs. There is an argument that goes along the lines of: ‘Iain Dale is consistently rude about the quality of left/progressive blogging (not possible to describe myself as left wing, oh no) and often moans about them without linking to them. He should not...

Iain Dale's (biased) 2008-9 Guide to Political Blogging in the UK

As usual, I won't be taking part in this charade (or anything else this old fraud is behind). But this year, it looks like I'll have some company: Bob Piper - Why I won't be voting in Iain Dale's poll...

A Plea For Tolerance

I see Sunny Hundal's advising people not to participate in Iain Dale's top blogs competition because he doesn't think it'll be fair... Or so he says, at least. He's welcome to his opinion, of course, but I can't help but feel that his position might be motivated by simple prejudice. After all, Mr. Dale might be happily gay-married just like the rest of us, but he's also openly Tory. That shouldn't...

Shane Richmond And Buying Blogs

NOT everyone is buying blogs. But they want the new Anorak (coming soon). Writes Shane Richmond: Guido Fawkes reports, via Newer Labour, that the left-wing blog Labour Home has been bought for “a high five-figure sum” by Mike Danson, who owns the New Statesman. Suddenly everyone is buying blogs. The Guardian bought US media blog Paid [...]

I Need Your Vote

Last year, I was place 155th in the Top 500 political blogs. This year, Iain Dale is publishing a new book including the top 100 blogs. If you have enjoyed reading my witterings, then it would be great if you would spend a few moments voting for me. I've reproduced the rules below:- “We're asking for your votes to decide the Top 100 UK Political Blogs. Simply email your Top Ten (ranked from 1 to 10)...

Decide the Top 100 UK Political Blogs

Iain Dale's new venture http://www.totalpolitics.com/ is publishing the 2008-9 Guide to Political Blogging in the UK. As last year this will list the Top 100 UK Political Blogs. Because, with a few notable exceptions like my good self, many Labour folk are too busy in government bringing democratic socialism to a grateful nation (well, 28% of the nation is grateful according to ICM, up 3%!) to write...
