economy tanks. artists to blame, for throwing money on the street.

World famous designer Stefan Sagmeister created a street installation out of 250,000 Euro cent coins . The police see that people are taking the coins (reacting to and changing the piece of art as Sagmeister expected), so they quickly step in to 'protect' it. By sweeping it up. Hopefully they put the coins in a very safe place. Like a good ole American investment bank. From Eyebeam reBlog .

This is reiterated in the current exhibition at Tate Modern, titled simply Street Art , which sees six international "urban" artists create artworks for the façade of the iconic building....

Honey Space: An Un-Gallery Art Gallery

At first glance, Chelsea’s newest art gallery, Honey Space could be mistaken for a temporary street art installation. Most people passing by wouldn't register it as any kind of proper establishment - it looks more like an abandoned warehouse. A Man Kneeling in Front of a Zevs Piece on La Brea

I think this Zevs installation is my favorite piece of streetart in 2007. It's smart and well-executed-- and the anti-corporate message contrasts perfectly with all the advertising signage nearby. This year was pretty disappointing for street art-- as I've said a few times, I'm starting to feel like the global movement peaked some time in early 2006, and we're due for a long spell of dull graffiti....

Inhabitat points us to one of the greenest street artists around. Hungarian Edina Tokodi creates art using moss. Currently based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Tokodi’s installations of wild animals and living camouflage are meant to highlight the disconnect we city dwellers have with nature. In Tokodi’s own words: I think that our distance from nature [...]
