New Haven, Connecticut - home for the next three years. Show reports will be now coming from New York City, mostly (whenever my new-fangled schedule will allow for trips to the city!). Upcoming in the fall ballet season: Christopher Wheeldon's ballet company Morphoses at City Center and American Ballet Theatre's fall repertory season, also at City Center. Hopefully I'll also be able to make it out...

A ballet company without its home theater, the Teatro Colon Ballet is still busy giving performances, including two this weekend at Teatro Coliseo. According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the company will perform “Les Sylphides,” the pas-des-deux from “Don Quixote,” and Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero.” They will perform with the similarly homeless Teatro Colon Orchestra, [...]

(The closing tableau of Etudes. Photo: me) Different casting at the Saturday matinee (Aug 9) shifted the balance in American Ballet Theatre's double bill of Etudes and Rabbit & Rogue at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Where Etudes chugged along rather limply at Wednesday's opening, it was great fun on Saturday, but Rabbit & Rogue lost considerable wattage with its second cast. Irina Dvorovenko...

This kind of photograph is difficult to obtain. It is of the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center. It was ballet season, and the State is home to the New York City Ballet (and the New York City Opera). They don't like you taking pictures, and they are vigilant during shows. I have a friend who works there who let me come in and take some shots when the theater was closed. Here, you can see a ballerina...

Half a century ago, when America was having problems with its image during the cold war, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., the United States representative from Harlem, had an idea. Stop sending symphony orchestras and ballet companies on international tours, he told the State Department. Let the world experience what he called “real Americana”: send out jazz bands instead. A photography exhibition of those...

One of the luckiest SOB's on the face of the earth is still getting down with a Victoria's Secret model. NBA'er Marko Jaric and Adriana Lima were spotted together at some crap called the 3rd Annual American Ballet Theatre Noche Latina, confirming that he is still having better sex than all of us combined (despite her claims of being a virgin... I choose to ignore all that.) And yes, Marko, you
