Systematically placing everything perfectly within a frame, Gregory Crewdson is the personification of staged photography perfection. He’s notorious for shutting down city blocks, cutting down signs he doesn’t see fit or for even bringing in his own weather. As if it was a movie set, Crewdson will use a team rivaling most small film productions and the equipment to back it up. Often, a single shot...
I find myself completely mesmerized by Gregory Crewdson's photos. The light, the narrative, the light, the tension, the light -- well, you get the idea. When you look at his photos, bear in mind that he puts his pants on one leg at a time, just like you do. Only then he spends the whole day taking over entire city blocks, directing his technical folks, manipulating casts of "figures" and, well, never...
"The New Criterion, now co-edited by the art critic Hilton Kramer and Roger Kimball, was founded in 1982 by Mr. Kramer and the pianist and music critic Samuel Lipman. A monthly review of the arts and intellectual life . . . Serious, but not academic . . . a staunch defender of the values of high culture, an articulate scourge of artistic mediocrity and intellectual mendacity wherever they are
I've been a fan of photographer Gregory Crewdson for a good few years now; a number of his photos have popped up on the blog over the years, including the blog header which held the fort during my absence (the naked couple on the dirty mattress). Last week I finally got to see his work up close. It was fantastic! I'll be writing about it in a bit more detail tomorrow. For now please enjoy a few pieces...
Gregory Crewdson works more like a big-budget film director than a photographer: he commandeers entire American towns for location shoots; employs actors and a full production crew,…
Wasn't it a glorious May Bank Holiday weekend? The sun here in London shone and shone and everyone tried to make the most of it by being out in the sunshine and hot air with bare arms and legs. We spent Saturday hopping from one gallery to another courtesy of many black cabs due to my advanced pregnancy: the voluptuous, almost edible paintings of Howard Hodgkin at the Gasgosian in Kings Cross ( above)...
You don't have to give a whit about contemporary art to be able to deeply engage with the photographs of Gregory Crewdson, whose show at New York's Luhring Augustine gallery is a knockout.
When I first discovered Gregory Crewdson was at uni @ a lecture. I was totally fascinated by the images shown to us on the slide show that afternoon, which was from Crewdsons Twilight series. From that day on he has become one of my favourite photographers of all time. His images have a dreamlike feel, Lynch and Hitchcock coming to mind as does Edward Hopper. Complicated sets lit by large crews of 15-20...
Gregory Crewdson has a London show of new pictures, produced with extravagant film-set like precision. It opens on April 23rd, and runs until 23rd May 08.
The Berkshires have been well-captured in the past by photography greats like Bill Tague and Randy Trabold, but the current ace practitioner comes from an unlikely place — the world of contemporary gallery art. Gregory Crewdson has built bodies of work on top his impressions of the area, which were forged on childhood trips here [...]

Our weekend began on Friday night when we met up to eat at Eat And Two Veg in Marylebone. The building was wonderfully cavernous with high ceilings, exposed brick and dark wooden furnishings, but the food was a little too stodgily vegetarian for my liking, featuring such old school ingredients as textured soya protein and quorn. I much prefer the fresher, more modern and imaginative vegetarian delights...
Photographer Gregory Crewdson is known for his meticulous, cinematic work, where mysterious circumstances are depicted as nuggets in a larger story. His photo shoots work like movie sets — indoor sets are crafted with the same detail and intensity, while his on location work can often resemble a movie crew at work, and can cause [...]
