I took this photo on Sunday, March 17th 1985. During 1985 and 1986, the Illinois Railway Museum operated a late winter / early springtime series of fantrips billed as "The Snowflake Special". Both the 1985 and 1986 fantrips utilized 8 car trains of 1950's era 6000 series rapid transit cars built by the St. Louis Car Company, from salvaged electrical components acquired from scrapped CTA PCC...

I took this photo inside one of the many display barns, at the Illinois Railway Museum. A fair amount of equipment from the defunct Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad, has found it's way to the Illinois Railway Museum for preservation. Seen here is the North Shore Lines corporate logo, on the side of one of their modernized "Silverliner" electric interurban multiple unit cars....

Exhibits about the golden era of passenger train travel can be viewed up close first hand, at the Illinois Railway Museum. Seen here is an old 1920's era passenger dining car from the fallen flag railroad Louisville and Nashville. This car served quality on board home cooked meals in pre Amtrak times.

This logo was paint stenciled on to the sides of a preserved 1920's era wooden freight motor used in Merchandise Dispatch Service many decades ago.
