I’m sure many of you probably remember the beautiful model/actress Margaux Hemingway, granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway and sister of Mariel Hemingway. Mariel also became an actress and, later, a successful businesswoman. (Margaux and Mariel co-starred in one of the worst, most exploitative movies ever, “Lipstick,” with its infamous rape scene [NSFW].) Margaux’s life was fraught...

When Insults Had Class These insults are from an era before the English language got boiled down to 4-letter words. ^ I found these posted on facebook. Quite interesting, since I'm learning about most of these people in history ATM! "He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire." - Winston Churchill "I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with...

I don't think we ever reported on it at the time, but back in March Andy Garcia was talking up a film called Hemingway and Fuentes, about the friendship between Ernest Hemingway and his fishing partner and longtime friend Gregorio Fuentes. At the time, Anthony Hopkins was loosely attached to play Hemingway. That casting has now firmed up, and the film will move forward with Annette Bening also aboard...

Casting Tidbits Activate! First up, THR reports that Zach Galifianakis is continuing his hot hiring streak, but this time only his voice will be needed as he's entered negotiations to provide the voice for Humpty Dumpty in the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots at DreamWorks Animation. He joins Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in a story about the events leading up to the feline assassin's first meeting...

Today, I'd like to welcome guest blogger, Michael Atkinson. Michael is the author of a new book, Hemingway Deadlights . He says, "The story is set in 1956 Key West, and the post-Nobel Ernest Hemingway ropes himself into investigating the mysterious murder of a drinking buddy, a path that eventually leads him to Cuba and rum in the jungle with Castro and Guevera. (Book #2, coming in 2010, goes...

It was March that I wrote about Anthony Hopkins playing Ernest Hemingway in one of the couple of films about the great writer, and the news today is that he's definitely on the along project along with Annette Bening, and with Andy Garcia producing and directing from a script he co-wrote with Hilary Hemingway, Ernest;s granddaughter. The film is called Hemingway & Fuentes and follows Hemingway...

It’s been a fair while since Anthony Hopkins has had the chance to stretch his legs within a role, and I can think of no better opportunity for him to remind people what a fine actor he is than by stepping into the shoes of Ernest Hemingway. That’s exactly what he’ll be doing for Andy Garcia [...]

When Ernest Hemingway wrote "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" in the 1930s, he described the summit of that African mountain as "wide as all the world, great, high, and unbelievably white in the sun." It's still wide, but may not be white much longer, due to climate change.

It’s no real surprise that Wikipedia has a thorough list of these, but it’s interesting to parse through the many, and find a neat collection of songs and albums that were based on, or influenced by books. Led Zeppelin has a scatological lyric library referencing JRR Tolkien, but let’s see what else is out there. 13. Alan Parson’s [...]
