I very recently reviewed Carl Hiaasen's novels. Among his fiction are two books that are written explicitly for kids. Looking just at Hiaasen's titles it may be hard to pick them out from the pack, so I'm making a special reference to them here. They are called "Hoot" and "Flush." Details follow: Read the rest of this post... | Read the comments on this post...

So at my daughter’s new school, the kids are reading this book, Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. You may have heard of it. It was also a movie. I’ve never seen it; maybe you have. You may know of Carl Hiaasen, or even be a fan of his work–his usual genre is [...]

Herald columnist Carl Hiaasen is not a big fan of the prospects of a potential Charlie Crist vice presidency. "It's no sin to be ambitious, and it's flattering to be courted by your party's presidential nominee," Hiaasen writes in a...

Carl Hiaasen writes in his Miami Herald column today about Sen. Barack Obaba's association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, a yammering jackass who happens to be African-American but whose chief characteristic is his religious lunacy, a destructive influence which -- like alcoholism, AIDS, poverty, and other afflictions nearly as devastating and corrupt as a faith-based world view -- is color-blind....

I grew up on Carl Hiaasen 's novels about South Florida. I always thought they were hilarious. I admired the environmentalism that suffused his books without making them preachy, and I admired the astonishing depth of his cynicism about the human race (I was that kind of kid). I guess if I had really learned that well from him, I wouldn't have been so surprised to learn that his latest book is a collection...

After reading and enjoying “Basket Case” by Carl Hiaasen recently, I received 3 more of his books through Bookmooch a while back: “Skinny Dip” “Sick Puppy” and “Lucky You” (which I am reading just now) A few days ago I realized I had quite a few points collected on Bookmooch again, so I requested 6 more: “Stormy Weather” “Skin [...]

The American author Carl Hiaasen writes hilarious books set in Florida, where he was born and raised. Mr. Hiaasen obviously cares a great deal for his native state and its wildlife. In his books the anti- hero gets his come uppance at the hands of nature, along with a little help from some truly off the wall characters who, like Hiaasen, care very much about the effect of the tourist industry on the...

I don't even remember why I picked this book up in the first place. I think I must have heard some good things about the author somewhere. Also, I kind of liked the blurb and this pretzel-like dead lizard on the cover must have been the last thing needed to hook me. (Yes, the dead [...]

Kevin Beck tells us that finally, Florida has the right spokesman for the creationist situation down there: Carl Hiaasen has written an editorial . If you don't know Hiaasen, you should — he writes hilarious comic novels that highlight the absurdity of politics and culture and crime in Florida. I'm wondering if he doesn't see the recent creationist shenanigans in his state as an opportunity for more...

I'd forgotten how amusing Carl Hiaasen is. I've enjoyed several of his books in the past and it's time to treat myself to another.
