One of the great operas of the past century is Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny." A scandal at its premiere in Leipzig in 1930, the piece was disdained by both the Nazis and the Communists and represented the beginning of the end of the famous collaboration between writer and composer.

The Opera, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, is a razor-edged critique of capitalism, and considered by many to be the greatest collaboration between music composer Kurt Weill and playwright Bertolt Brecht.
