Let us not panic. The news that Sebastian Coe is to launch the Cultural Olympiad by putting on his running shorts and sprinting through Tate Britain may not be encouraging. It might even justify fears that other desperate attempts to hobble art and sport together will follow: Tracey Emin doing the breast stroke at Tooting Bec Lido, Andrew Motion in a sonnet-reading race in the Albert Hall, Zara Phillips...
From a massive spider to a tiny bird. Great to see the 'Roman Standard' back outside the Oratory near Liverpool Cathedral. You may remember the small sculpture by Tracey Emin was stolen a while ago, we were the first...

Eddie and I went to see the Tracy Emin exhibition at the Edinburgh Modern Art Gallery here today and I really liked it, I saw some of her work when it was displayed for the Tate Award some years back and I loved it then. Tracy Emin is fantastic - have others seen her stuff? She is clever in how she collects stuff and most of it relates to her. She tells her story through objects, paintings and banners....

Tracey Emin's knickers (next post down) reminded me of this gross image, not for the squeamish, let alone the artistic. This fuzzy snap, slightly I.C. cropped, is one of a set of Polaroids taken by Cerith Wyn Evans on 3/3/2000 for Ms Emin's show I've Got it All . Believe it or not, you...
I thought that only union bosses, dictators and royalty were granted jobs for life; but, according to The Independent (title link), Sir Nick Serota is one of the chosen few. Here's the lad himself, wondering whether to buy a pair of Tracey Emin's knickers for Tate Modern: Sir Nicholas Serota Makes an Acquisitions Decision (2006) courtesy of Charles Thomson of Stuckism fame ( CLICK ). The Tate Board...
When Sir Nicholas Serota took over as head of the Tate Gallery 20 years ago, Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin were still at college, the Turner Prize was in its infancy, and the Tate was still called the Tate. Many of the changes in the art world since 1988 – the championing of Brit Art, the rise of conceptualism and the dramatic expansion of the Tate itself – can be laid at Sir Nicholas's door. So it...

A new campaign set up by Surfers Against Sewage called Drawing Boards sounds like it could produce some interesting results. The idea is that Paul McCartney will join a bunch of British artists, including Tracey Emin and Gavin Turk, in decorating some surfboards, with the aim of auctioning them off in October this year, to raise awareness for SAS.
