Destination Spotlight - Barcelona - Discover the Palace of Catalan Music

The soaring and whimsical architecture of Barcelona is most closely identified with Antoni Gaudi, but a host of talented architects contributed to its memorable skyline as well. Lluís Domènech i Montaner (1850-1923), for example, designed several buildings in the modernisme...

Leaving Spain

It is my last day in Spain. Today I hope to visit a place called Sagrada Familia which is a nearby church designed by Antoni Gaud. It looks beautiful in pictures so I am very excited. After that I am not sure what I want to do next. So far my time here has been fun. My only gripe is that the hostel is not close to anything so I'm constantly having to figure out the public transportation here

Sagrada Familia

Work in progress It is one of the world's most famous unfinished masterpieces, and critics are increasingly concerned that the completed version of Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Familia will bear little resemblance to his original plan. Catch up on the history of Barcelona's architectural wonder. See slideshow I'd wanted to see this structure since I first saw pictures of it when I was a child. I finally...

Pursuing passion

"Vicky Cristina Barcelona" continues Woody Allen's recent cinematic tour of Europe with another morality play, one that doesn't fit his romantic comedy or melodramatic thriller mold. But "Barcelona" is likable, beautifully acted, scenic and sexy, ingredients that have been missing from Allen's films since, oh, "Everyone Says I Love You" (1996).

Magic Square

(Barcelona, Spain) I found a chiseled example of a magic square on the exterior of the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família , a cathedral in Barcelona that was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí . If you add the numbers in any row, in the diagonals, along the four corners, or in the four smaller squares, you get 33. This is believed by many Christians to be the age of Christ when He died...

Where am I now?

If everything goes smoothly, I should be standing on the ground of Spain's second largest city now. How's everyone doing? What are your plans for the weekend? No matter what I hope you will have a great one. Can't wait to stroll around the city and look at Antoni Gaudi's work. I will leave this city in 3 days. Where's next? Stay tuned =)

Antoni Gaudi

So how come Gaudi was practically the only architect ever to have the balls to use colors and curves? I'm not saying everything should look like his work, but it does demonstrate the dominating paucity of imagination.

Barcelona’s Top 5 Buildings

Barcelona is one of Europe’s most interesting cities, mostly thanks to the architecture of Antoni Gaudí. Gaudí’s distinctive Art Nouveau buildings create an almost fairytale atmosphere, from the spires of the Sagrada Família to the avenues of the Parc Güell. But Barcelona’s architecture isn’t just Gaudí. The Camp Nou stadium and business district make it [...]
